Sullivan Road store allows Columbia Paint to expand

Columbia Paint and Coatings packed up and moved to a new location on Sullivan Road in July. The business had occupied its location at 12414 E. Sprague Ave. since the late 1970s.

“We moved out there to expand our store,” said Columbia Paint and Coatings district manager Byron Nelson. “Our business has grown from $750,000 to $1.5 million in five years, and we have a need for more warehouse space and a larger sales floor.”

They now have space in abundance, spreading out over 5,000 square feet. Their old location only had 2,500 square feet.

When looking for a new spot to call home, the company liked Sullivan Road. “We feel that’s where the growth is,” Nelson said. “It’s a main corridor and there’s better access to the freeway.”

The location currently has six employees and there are currently no plans to hire more, Nelson said.

The store, at 328 N. Sullivan Road, will have its grand opening with door prizes, hot dogs and ice cream on Thursday.

Spooks and goblins coming

Spirit Halloween will once again open a temporary store in Spokane Valley in preparation for the spooky holiday. This year the Valley location will be at the old Dollar Store at Sprague and McDonald next to Value Village.

The store should be open by Sept. 3, said district sales manager Lorene Roullier-Bennett. It will carry costumes, makeup, party supplies, spooky music, wigs and more. “Anything you can think of that you need for Halloween, we have it,” she said.

The business is a subsidiary of Spencer Gifts, which is based in New Jersey. Other locations are planned for Spokane’s North Side and Coeur d’Alene but no leases have been signed yet, she said.

The store will remain open through Nov. 1

Spa business wins award

Northwest Spa and Pool earned a Dimensions of Excellence award from Dimension One Spas, an international spa manufacturer.

“It was just an award for the sales and service that we’ve given to our customers,” said Northwest Spa owner Greg Triber. His business was singled out from all the Dimension One dealers in the Northwest.

Triber said he has built a successful business over the last 23 years by focusing on carrying high quality products and providing service to the customers after the sale. “We do over $1 million a year in sales,” he said. “For somebody just in the spa business, that’s probably a fairly high amount.”

The business, at 1313 N. Argonne Road, has four employees.
