Sandpoint combines parks, rec departments

From staff reports

Sandpoint Recreation Director Kim Woodruff is adding parks director to his job description.

The Sandpoint City Council approved Wednesday combining the parks and recreation departments and having Woodruff oversee both.

The change comes after Parks Director Maurice Dunn announced his retirement after 25 years.

Woodruff has been the recreation director since 1986 and began his career with the city as an intern following his graduation from the University of Idaho.

Woodruff, 42, will hire a recreation supervisor to help out with the reorganization. The parks department already has a parks, buildings and grounds supervisor.

Woodruff said that Sandpoint’s park system is “second to none” in the state and he will do his best to continue the tradition.
