St. George’s teams win top honors in math
St. George’s School sent four teams to theMath Is Cool state championship competition on Nov. 20, and teams from all four age groups won first place.
Teams representing the seventh and eighth grades, and freshman/sophomore and junior/senior classes each had the highest point totals among Division II schools.
Several students also won state titles or scored high in the competition for Division II individuals.
Sully Blake placed first, Jordan Dickson, fourth, and Austin Henderson, fifth, among seventh-graders.
Eighth-graders Michael Cambareri and Britton Stamper finished first and second overall for their age group.
Nate Wynn finished first, Johnny Cambareri, second, and Elisabeth DeLeeuw, third among all freshman/sophomores, and Daniel Copeland placed second, and Charlie Stangle was third among junior/senior classes.
Math Is Cool was founded in 1996 by Lewis and Clark High School math teacher Gregg Sampson and has quickly spread statewide.
This fall, teams competed at the regional level with contests in Spokane, Moses Lake and Seattle.
The top schools were then invited to participate in a statewide master contest, which was held in Moses Lake last month.
