Hauenstein hits five 3-pointers as NC tips Bulldogs

North Central pulled away in the fourth quarter Friday to score a 74-63 non-league boys basketball victory at Sandpoint.

The Bulldogs trailed by two points after three quarters, but NC went on a 19-10 run through the final period to take the win.

Cody Hauenstein connected on 5 of 6 shots from 3-point range and led NC with 22 points.

Sandpoint’s Ben Mitchell led all scorers with 25 points.

Troy 66, Garfield-Palouse 58: Tyler Bollman of the victorious Trojans had 21 points to lead all scorers. Teammate Aaron Smith added another 19. Mike Rosser and Garrett Parrish each had 15 points for Gar-Pal. Rosser added five rebounds and three steals. … Priest River 56, Newport 31: Jake Flaherty scored 12 of his 21 points in the first half to lead the Spartans past the visiting Grizzlies. Jeremy Patterson added 10 points for Priest River. … Kellogg 56, Wallace 40: The host Wildcats got a dozen points from Jessy Groth and another 11 off the bench from James Lloyd in earning the win in the first-round of the Silver Valley Tournament. Kellogg plays Prairie for the championship tonight at 7:30. Mullan plays Wallace for third at 6… . Lake City 62, Meridian 60 (OT): Ty Stoddard gave the Timberwolves the non-league victory with two free throws. Ryan McPhee contributed six rebounds. … Lakeland 72, Colville 34: The Hawks took advantage of 22 turnovers to down visiting Colville at Rathdrum. Ryan Gallia had 24 points and 14 rebounds to lead Lakeland. … Moscow 48, Bonners Ferry 21: The Bears took a 38-26 advantage on the boards en route to the non-league home win over the Badgers. Moscow’s Paul Wimer scored 10 points.

Girls basketball

Newport 60, Priest River 54: The Grizzlies held off the visiting Spartans from the free-throw line, canning 20 of 25 attempts en route to a non-league victory. Maria Barranco tossed in 29 points to lead Newport, which outscored the Spartans 17-11 down the stretch to secure the victory.

Rosalia 44, Logos 23: Clarissa Harston had 19 points and Ashley Widman added nine points, 10 rebounds and six steals to guide the Spartans past the visiting Knights.

Washington football

Lind-Ritzville 25, DeSales 21: Travis Dewald found Jake Phillips with a 75-yard touchdown pass with 1 minute, 51 seconds left in the game to earn the Broncos a come-from-behind victory over the Irish in the State B-11 championship game at the Gridiron Classic in Tacoma.

The Broncos completed a 13-0 season under coach Mike Lynch, who is retiring after 31 seasons.
