UCLA upends Stanford, wins water polo title
STANFORD, Calif. — Logan Powell scored with 13 seconds remaining in the second overtime Sunday to lift UCLA to the NCAA championship with a 10-9 victory over Stanford.
Powell, Albert Garcia and 2004 Olympian Brett Ormsby each scored twice for the Bruins (25-3), who won their first title since 2000 and their eighth since 1969.
Peter Varellas scored three goals for Stanford (23-5), the national runner-up the last two seasons. The Cardinal lost to USC in 2003’s final.
Stanford (23-5) scored twice in the final minute of regulation to send the game into overtime.
Loyola Marymount defeated Princeton 6-5 in the third-place game.
