Tiny Young comes up big

St. Michael’s put four players in double figures and got a solid all-around game from 5-foot-2 Megan Vogel in evening its record at 1-1 with a 71-41 win over visiting Christian Heritage on Monday night in a non-league girls basketball game.

Young had 11 steals, 12 rebounds and 14 points. Stephanie Mazurak’s 20 points led the scoring for the Warriors. Sara Young had 13 points and nine rebounds for CH (0-3).

St. Michael’s jumped off to a 20-6 lead in the first quarter and built on the margin the rest of the way.

Boys basketball

Colton 84, Pullman Christian 55: Kyle Schultheis had four 3-pointers and 25 points in leading the Wildcats (2-1) to the non-league victory at home. Ryan Sparkman and Tom Eylar hit two 3-pointers each for Colton. Jeremy Benjamin led PC (1-1) with 16 points… . Newport 65, St. Michael’s 45: The Grizzlies blew open a seven-point game in the final 5 minutes. David McFall led all scorers with 26 points for visiting Newport. Carlos Durazo had five 3-pointers and 19 points to lead the Warriors.
