Some folks feel squeamish about giving the one gift anyone can use: cash.

They may think it’s rude — although Emily Post says it’s not — or may hew to the adage that “it’s the thought that counts.” To combat those sentiments, credit card companies and retailers are trying to come up with more palatable ways to give gifts of cash.
