Eastern gets 23 from Ulmer, upends UC Irvine
The Eastern Washington University women’s basketball team won its third straight game by defeating visiting UC Irvine 65-50 at Reese Court on Monday.
The win moves the Eagles to 4-3 on the season while the Anteaters fall to 0-5.
The Eagles held the lead for the entire game and were up by as many as 22 points in the second half.
Eastern went to the locker room at the half up by 18 points (36-18). Eastern came out early in the second half to score eight points in just over a minute.
The closest Irvine would get was within 12 with just over 3 minutes to play.
Senior guard Stephanie Ulmer, who finished the night with a season-high 23 points, was the catalyst for the Eagles. Ulmer connected on 8 of 14 shots from the floor and drained seven 3-pointers on 13 attempts
She tied the EWU all-time record for 3-point-attempts with Susan Smith-Blackley, who also had 13 attempts in November of 1987. In just seven games so far this season, Ulmer has connected on 17 of 35 shots from behind the 3-point arc, a .583 shooting percentage.
Jamie Chicane chipped in 12 points with seven rebounds for EWU. UC Irvine was led by Lauren Yadon with 19 points.
