UI’s Jones honored as player of the week
University of Idaho has its first Big West Conference men’s basketball player of the week for 2004-05.
Senior swingman Danrick Jones, who had a game-high 17 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals in the Vandals’ 69-62 upset of Utah State on Thursday, was honored by the conference Monday.
He helped seal the conference-opening win with a put-back dunk and clutch 3-pointer in the late going.
Hockey
With four games this week and two players missing, the Spokane Chiefs on Monday added a player to their roster.
Drayson Bowman, a 15-year-old left winger who is playing for the Kimberley Dynamiters of the Kootenai International Junior Hockey League, will join the Chiefs when they visit the Everett Silvertips tonight to kick off the busy week.
Bowman, originally from Littleton, Colo., and the Chiefs’ first-round draft selection in 2004, will take up some of the slack for the absence of J.P. Szaszkiewicz and Mike Reich, who are gone for the Under-17 World Hockey Challenge. Bowman has 19 goals and 37 points in 33 games for Kimberley.
Spokanewill be home Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Kelowna.
