Is CSI’s Warren Brown married or spoken for?
Q: I have a question about the guy who plays Warren Brown on “CSI” (I believe his name is Gary Dourdan). Is he married or spoken for? I am very interested. — Jennifer B. in Tifton, Ga.
A: The former “A Different World” actor Gary Dourdan, who just turned 38 on Dec. 11, is divorced from supermodel Roshumba Williams and has a daughter named Nyla and a son, Lyric. Dourdan soon will be sharing the big screen with Holly Hunter and Michael Gambon in the title role of 2005’s “My Boy.” It’s the story of a single Irish mother’s love for her black illegitimate son, her fight to hold onto him against the backdrop of racist 1950s Dublin, and her pride in watching him become rock-and-roll legend Phil Lynott.
Q: Here’s a tough one: There was an old black and white movie with Bob Hope and Paulette Goddard called “The Cat and the Canary.” How can I get to see it? Is it on (VHS tape)? Has it been renamed? — Paul A., Fort Myers, Fla.
A: It took a little searching, but I found the movie you’re looking for. Hope and Goddard’s comedic suspense thriller from 1939 was a remake of director Paul Leni’s Old Dark House silent film of the same name from 1927. While the 1939 version has not been released in any official media format, I found many listings for the movie on VHS on eBay. A DVD version was recently made available in the United Kingdom, but the format is not compatible with DVD players used in the United States.
Q: Hands-down, my favorite new show this season has got to be ABC’s “Desperate Housewives.” I know there’s a lot of fuss surrounding John, the young gardener, but Mike Delfino, the sexy plumber, is more my cup of tea. Please tell me everything you can about him. — Jenni in Portland, Maine
A: Well, I’ll tell you as much as I can about James Denton, 41, or as much as space will allow! Denton was born in Nashville, Tenn., and honed his acting skills in Chicago’s renowned theater scene. After numerous theater roles and many guest-starring roles in television (“Ally McBeal,” “JAG,” “Sliders” and “Dark Skies,” to name a few), he landed starring roles in “Philly” (2001) and “Threat Matrix” (2003). The cancellation of “Threat Matrix” led him to “Desperate Housewives,” and American women have been salivating ever since. He is married (shucks!) and has one child. Interesting tidbit: He dated country music singer Deanna Carter in high school.
Q: My favorite sitcom of all time is “Cheers,” with my favorite actress being Shelley Long. I heard a horrible rumor that she recently tried to take her own life. Please tell me this isn’t true! She’s too talented and beautiful to be taken from us. — Eric in Baltimore
A: Shelley Long, 55, has recuperated after a drug overdose. Despite reports to the contrary, her representative, Martin Mickelson, insists the actress merely took one too many pain pills. Some newspapers reported that Long has been depressed and despondent since the breakup of her 22-year marriage; however, Mickelson insists Long suffered severe back problems and simply misjudged her pill dosage. Whatever the cause of her illness, we all wish Ms. Long a speedy and full recovery.
