Donate change found at your feet to good cause
This holiday season I am celebrating a South Hill tradition of my own making. I want to ask that others join in.
You’ve heard the phrase, “A penny for your thoughts.” I have taken it a step further, and here’s how it works.
I shop regularly at Rosauers on 14th and Lincoln. At each check-out stand, there is a Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery benefit box for contributions. I began cruising for coins and currency on the pavement outside the store with every visit. It is amazing how much money grows up from the pavement or falls from the sky, not to mention from people’s pockets.
I calculate that this last year provided $180 of pavement payout to a very good cause. No metal detector is required; just a willingness to look down in order to help a child in need grow up. The South Hill does indeed provide a lot of opportunity right at our feet.
