July 4 events
Communities across the Inland Northwest are planning celebrations over the Fourth of July weekend.
Here is a list of events, some of which are planned for the holiday:
Sandpoint Fourth of July Celebration – Saturday, with Sandpoint Lions Club sponsoring kids parade at 9 a.m. and grand parade at 10 a.m. downtown with a carnival, free ice cream from 2-4 p.m. for ages 12 and under, stage performances, raffle and fireworks show at dusk at City Beach. Grand Coulee Dam – Saturday and Sunday. Vendors, food court, daily live entertainment with “Elvis.” Park opens at 11 a.m., no admission. Free nightly laser light show at 10 p.m. Fireworks display follows light show Sunday off top of the dam. Call 633-9265 or (800) 268-5332.
Northwest Renaissance Festival – Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m.-7 p.m., rain or shine, through July 18. Special promotions: Saturday, firefighters, law enforcement, medical personnel admitted free with identification; Sunday, Military Day, personnel, active and reserves, admitted free with identification; 11 a.m.-7 p.m., west on Francis 18.5 miles from Division to 6493 Highway 291, Nine Mile Falls. $7.50/adults, $5/seniors/children under age 12, $35/season pass, $65/family pass. Spokane Indians Baseball – Class A baseball at Avista Stadium. Promotion nights: Friday, Military Appreciation Night; Saturday and Sunday, fireworks nights; games nightly at 6:30 p.m. Spokane County Fair and Expo Center, Havana at Broadway. Call 535-2922 or 325-SEAT.
Northport celebration – Sunday, Northport Fire Department holds breakfast at Fire Hall, 7-11 a.m. All breakfast items are donated by local merchants and residents, with all proceeds going to the department. A Rail Car Derby (soap box) sponsored by the Lions Club will be held in front of the fire station following breakfast. Registration begins at 11 a.m., with races at noon. Northport Raceway will celebrate 50 years of racing Saturday and Sunday. Besides regular racing, there will be four-wheel-drive Mud Bogger Races. Gates open at 11 a.m. and races begin at 1 p.m. Northport Chamber of Commerce will sponsor its annual fireworks show at the City Park at dusk Sunday.
Coeur d’Alene festival – Starts Saturday with a boat parade at 10 p.m. on Lake Coeur d’Alene; followed Sunday by “The American Heroes” grand parade at noon down Sherman Avenue; with a KC-135 flyover from Fairchild Air Force Base; live music at the City Park Bandshell from 1:30-8:30 p.m.; food vendors and children’s activities throughout the day; boat parade at the City Beach and Boardwalk starts at 2 p.m.; free massages during a Massage-A-Thon sponsored by Boys and Girls Club of Kootenai County from 3-9 p.m.; and fireworks display over Lake Coeur d’Alene at dusk. Kettle Falls 17th annual celebration – Sunday with live music, dancing, volleyball, arts and crafts, and food. China Bend Winery. $10/adults, free/younger than 16. Call (800) 700-6123.
Curlew Fireworks and Lighted Boat Parade – Sunday at dusk, Curlew Lake, Republic, Wash. Call (509) 775-3387.
Americana Celebration Liberty Lake – Sunday, entertainment by Meridian (folk music), Grass Act (bluegrass) and Hot Rod Deluxe (classic rock). Fireworks will follow. 6 p.m., Pavillion Park, Liberty Lake.
Neighbor Day 2004 – Community Fourth of July celebration Sunday sponsored by Clear Channel Radio with music, food and fireworks show at dusk, 11 a.m.-10:30 p.m., Riverfront Park. Call 459-9800.
Pullman celebration – Festivities begin Sunday at 5 p.m. in Sunnyside Park with a barbecue and music. Food, fun and games for all ages, capped by fireworks show at dusk. Pullman transit will shuttle people to and from the park. The bus will make regular stops along the A and D routes from 4:20 to 9:50 p.m., with return service after the fireworks show until 11:50 p.m. Volunteers are needed for assistance with children’s games, food sales and other activities.
