Singing Nuns plan anniversary concert

The Singing Nuns of Mount St. Michael, 8502 N. St. Michael’s Road, will celebrate their 25th anniversary with a July 17 Courtyard Concert.

The preshow celebration will include food booths, live music, a silent auction, and tours of the historic building.

There also will be a car to be auctioned.

Founded in August of 1979, the nuns began singing at the Olympic Hotel in Seattle. Recently they have been busy filming a documentary for the Discovery Channel, which will air sometime this fall.

Gates will open at 4 p.m., and the Singing Nuns will perform at 7 and will include songs from their original 1979 repertoire. Bring lawnchairs and blankets.

The cost is $5 per person, $15 per car and $25 per bus.

For more information, call the church office at 467-0986.

Children’s choir concert

Calvary Chapel, 511 W. Hastings St., will present the African Children’s Choir in concert on July 25 at 6 p.m.

This Grammy-nominated choir has 26 children ages 5 to 12 from Africa who perform their native music and popular gospel music and spirituals.

The choir was formed in 1984 by Ray Barnett, who was in Uganda during the country’s civil war. Barnett wanted to find a way for the orphaned children of the war to express themselves through music and contribute to their communities later in life, so he established the music school. The choir has performed all over the world, and there have been schools established in Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, Sudan and South Africa.

For more information, call the church office at 467-2860.
