Churches schedule vacation Bible school
The vacation Bible school season continues in the Valley as two more congregations muster up the volunteers necessary to make the classes both fun and spiritually educational.
• Instead of the traditional VBS program, Millwood Presbyterian Church is offering a day camp at Camp White in Post Falls. The Idaho site includes 28 acres on the Spokane River.
The first camp, for children in grades 4-6, is scheduled for July 12-15. The second, for children in grades 1-3, is set for Aug. 2-5. The day camp will include Bible stories, games, crafts, swimming and short hikes.
Children are advised to come fully equipped with swimsuit, towel, sunscreen, water bottles and walking shoes. There will be lifeguard present at the swimming area. The church will provide lunch, snacks and transportation to the camp. Children will leave the church, located at 3223 N. Marguerite Road, at 8:45 a.m. and will return at 2:30 p.m. each day.

• Zion Lutheran Church, 8304 E. Buckeye, will host a “Camp Creation” VBS July 12-16. Children age 4 through the sixth grade will meet daily from 9 to 11:45 a.m. There will be games, crafts, snacks and Bible stories. The touring musical group Captive Free will provide interactive music and puppetry.
Children attending the sessions will receive a T-shirt. Families are asked for a donation of $10 per child or $20 per family. Pre-registration is requested. Call the church office at 926-5407 for more information or to register.
Churches looking for soccer players
The congregations of Spokane Valley Wesleyan Church and Valley Open Bible are teaming up to provide an Upwards Soccer program for children age 4 through the sixth grade. The faith-based program will create teams that include players of all skill levels. There will be separate leagues for boys and girls and every child will play.
Skill evaluations for children age 4 through the second grade will be held at Valley Open Bible, 905 N. McDonald Road, from 6 to 8 p.m. July 22 and from 9 a.m. to noon July 24. Evaluations for the older children will be at the Wesleyan Church, 16607 E. Broadway, at the same times and dates.
The fee is $55 for children who sign up before July 19. Those who sign up after that date will pay $65. No registrations will be accepted after July 24. The fee includes two uniform shirts.

Service schedule changes
• Dishman Baptist Church, 315 N. Argonne Road, is now offering a single worship service at 11 a.m. each Sunday. The church will continue to offer Sunday school classes at 9:45 a.m. and an evening worship service at 6 p.m. each Sunday.
• The summer schedule at Zion Lutheran Church includes only one worship service at 9 a.m. each Sunday. The church is located at 8304 E. Buckeye.
Rummage sales
• St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 503 N. Walnut Road, will put on its annual rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and next Saturday. There will also be food items available for purchase for breakfast and lunch. The church will polish off the sale with a special bag sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 16.
• Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 810 S. Sullivan Road, will host a “Trash and Treasures” sale from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday.
