Kettle Falls’ Borders tabbed All-State MVP in 1A softball

Amber Borders, infielder for State 1A softball champion Kettle Falls, was voted MVP of her classification for All-State spring sports teams.

The idea for the teams, voted on by Washington sportswriters, was conceived and is coordinated by Tri-City Herald sportswriter Rene Ferran for fall and winter sports not recognized by other media sources. The selections were chosen from a list of all-league players throughout the state.

Borders was one of several area athletes named to the second All-State softball, soccer and baseball teams. She was also a first-team 1A All-State infielder.

Kettle Falls coach Don Fox was voted 1A coach of the year.

Colville’s Melissa Rice was named a first-team pitcher in 2A softball.

Boys soccer first-team selections included University High forward Brett Hite, Lewis and Clark midfielder CJ Moe and defender Skye Henderson in Class 4A.

Class 2A selections were forward Nick DeGreffenreid from Pullman and defender Jason Nabakowski from Medical Lake.

In baseball, Lakeside pitcher Jordan Moore in 2A and Colfax outfielder Jameson Maj in 1A were first-team choices.

There were numerous area second-team and honorable mention selections, including 4A second-teamers, North Central pitcher Matt Oye in baseball, Mead pitcher Kim Watson and University outfielder Molly Owen in softball.
