Weather helps firefighters contain Dollar blaze
BOISE – Rainy weather Tuesday gave fire crews a chance to contain the Dollar fire on the Boise National Forest and extend their hold on the Cabin Creek blaze near Salmon.
Fire managers said that 520 firefighters reached full containment on the 782-acre Dollar fire, about 16 miles northeast of Cascade.
The area received half an inch of rain Monday night after downpours over the weekend checked its spread.
Linda Steinhaus with the Interagency Fire Information Center said crews would use handheld infrared devices today to check for underground hot spots from 500 feet within the fire line to 500 feet outside the boundary.
Control was expected on Thursday afternoon.
More progress was made on the Cabin Creek fire in the Salmon-Challis National Forest, where crews saw only minimal fire activity.
They had the 783-acre blaze 80 percent contained, managers said.
That fire is expected to be fully contained by Thursday, according to fire officials.
