Living Water schedules mid-summer celebration
Music and games will fill Liberty Lake’s Pavillion Park Aug. 1 thanks to Living Water Community Church.
The church is playing host to what it calls a mid-summer celebration from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be live music, carnival games, food and prizes. The entire event is a benefit for Valley Meals on Wheels and Habitat for Humanity.
“One of our core values is that we were created for community,” said senior pastor Steve Farnworth. “We should be actively reaching out in our community.”
The whole idea started earlier this year when Farnworth heard that the two nonprofit organizations were in need of donations. Farnworth considered sending each group a small donation, but then decided to use that money as seed money to put on a benefit.
“It grew from there,” he said. “I was amazed. It all came together in June and July.”
Some of the musical groups scheduled to perform include Patria, a gospel quartet from Tacoma, and Christian rappers Waslyk and C.A.T. The bands are donating their time and numerous local businesses have stepped up to donate food, prizes and other items. Because of this there will be very few overhead costs.
“We’ve had to put in a few dollars here and there,” Farnworth said. “Nobody’s going to make any money on this. The most anyone will get is their expenses.”
The music will be free, but there will be a charge for the carnival games and the food. The proceeds will be split between Habitat and Valley Meals on Wheels. Volunteers from the Liberty Lake Kiwanis will cook the food and volunteers from the Spokane Valley Kiwanis have volunteered to run the games.
“It really is not a Living Water event, it’s a community event. We’re just hosting it.”
