GU’s Bokulich named a rowing All-American

Gonzaga University senior rower Maria Bokulich has been named second-team All-American by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association.

Bokulich, of Santa Cruz, Calif., was second-team all-America last year.

Golf

Behind the play of freshmen Erik Olson and Spokane’s Alex Prugh, the Washington men¹s golf team moved up to a tie for fourth place at the midpoint of the NCAA Championships in Hot Springs, Va.

Baseball

The University of Washington’s Tim Lincecum was named both pitcher and freshman of the year for the Pacific-10 Conference. Lincecum, from Renton, Wash., is also one of nine college baseball players that received an invitation to participate in the USA Baseball National Team Trials, to be held June 20-26 in Durham, N.C.

Seven WSU players earned honorable mention honors: Bryce Chamberlin, junior; Jason Freeman, junior; Aaron McKenzie, senior; Jay Miller, sophomore; Grant Richardson, junior; Kaeo Rubin, junior; Aaron Trolia, senior. Richardson led the Pac-10 in runs batted in.

• Lakeside’s Jordan Moore struck out five in two innings and Colfax’s Matt Mellor had a three-run double in the sixth as the Class 2A/1A all-stars defeated the Class B team 6-0 in an all-state feeder game at Jackson Field.

In a later game at Jackson, Stewart Davis hit a three-run homer during a six-run third as the 4A/3A team stormed to a 21-2 win over the B players. Andrew Czapla homered for the B team.

Another game is set for 3:30 p.m. today at Jackson. After the game, a selection committee will nominate 10 players to next week’s all-state game in East Wenatchee.
