Dollar Store moving to former Kmart location

The Dollar Store is gearing up for a move that will double its display space and selection of merchandise.

The store, at 13124 E. Sprague Ave., is liquidating merchandise at 88 cents an item and will close by the end of June, said Bill Rice, Eastern Washington area manager for LOI Distributing, Inc. LOI Distributing Inc. operates 39 stores in Washington and Oregon.

The new Dollar Store will open in the old Kmart building, 15033 E. Sprague Ave. “We expect to be open by early August,” said Rice, adding that the store plans to double its workforce of eight.

The company is renting the middle 25,000 square feet of the building, which gives the store 12,000 more square feet than at its current location. Rice said the additional space will allow the company to expand its offerings of house wares, food, party supplies and health and beauty items.

“We have various size stores throughout the state. We have several stores that are over 20,000 square feet.”

The new store will be similar in size and product selection to the large store that opened on Wednesday at 4512 N. Market St.

New Subway to open

The new East Broadway shop has the company’s latest Tuscan decor and 350 additional square feet of space.

Janney said the three stores are getting new ovens and will offer toasted subs starting in July.
