Mascots should be scrutinized

The Spokesman-Review

I am writing to you on behalf of baseball. I really enjoy baseball and love watching my brother play, but there are a few issues. My brother’s team was named after a team called the Braves. Just a few days ago I saw a boy wearing an Indians baseball jersey with the picture of an Indian with blood-red skin and a feather. I feel that this is a racial problem. How would you feel if you were a Native American and saw this picture? I must say I would dislike seeing such a thing. I am a Jewish girl of 11 years. I would hate to see a player wearing a jersey with a man wearing a tall black hat and a tallit. I would find this very uncomforting. What I am asking is for you to think about what I had to say.
