Tricycle race to aid cancer group

You can get wobbly at a Hillyard tavern next week — for a good cause.

Big Sky Tavern is holding its third annual tricycle race, the “Skytona Mini 500,” on June 19. All money from the sponsor fees, raffles and entry fees will be given to the American Cancer Society.

The races begin at 2 p.m. in the tavern’s parking lot, 5510 N. Market St. For those too parched to walk from the parking lot to the tavern, a bar will be set up outside. There will also be pop and a lemonade stand, with food available.

Entries are accepted in both the stock and modified classes. You must be 21 to enter, and the sign-up deadline is Saturday. The entry fee is $5. Register at the tavern.

A complete list of rules will be available there, including rule number 17, “no lubricating other driver’s handlebars.” Apparently, last year someone decided to put hand lotion on competitors’ trikes, making it difficult for them to remain in control of their ride.

Trophies and ribbons will be given for first-, second- and third-place winners in both classes.

Sponsors of the race will receive a ribbon, and a sponsor board will be displayed in the tavern and outside during the race. Names of any business or person who donates will be displayed on the board.

There will be a half-time race held for anyone with a remote-control car.

Evening entertainment follows with music by Ricks Brothers.
