Spokane County leads the nation in participation in HomeChoice, a program that helps people with disabilities become homeowners.

Of 919 mortgage loans issued nationwide through HomeChoice since the program began in 1996, almost 400 have been in Washington state. And more than 25 percent of those — 117 loans worth more than $8 million — have gone to Spokane County residents.
