Mystics end home losing streak
COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The game-winning shot gave Chamique Holdsclaw a familiar feeling.
Holdsclaw hit a 15-foot jumper with 2.4 seconds remaining to give the Washington Mystics a 62-60 victory over the New York Liberty and their first home victory of the season.
“I was having deja vu,” Holdsclaw said. “I hit that same shot from the same place against New York a couple years ago at the Garden. So I thought: ‘I know it’s coming to me and if I get daylight just put it up.’ I’m just glad it went in.”
The Mystics had lost eight in a row at home, dating back to last season. The home fans were somewhat deprived, however, as the game was played at the University of Maryland’s Comcast Center to accommodate a Madonna concert Sunday night at MCI Center.
