Eleanor Zierdt

Newport, Wash.

Graveside service for Eleanor Marion (Nelson) Zierdt, 89, will be Tuesday at Newport Cemetery. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Zierdt, who was born in Newport, died Wednesday.

She graduated in 1932 from Newport High School and married James Zierdt that year.

Mrs. Zierdt helped establish the hot meals program, which is now operated by Rural Resources, and assisted her husband, who drove the Senior Citizens’ bus.

She was active in the Quilting Club.

Her husband died in 1994.

Survivors include a son, Jerry Zierdt of Washington state; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Memorial contributions be made to the Newport Cemetery Improvement Fund.
