Man arrested after allegedly making threats

From staff reports

COEUR d’ALENE – Police called out a tactical team early Wednesday morning to arrest a man who is believed to have threatened people with a gun and who held police at bay by refusing to leave a house.

City police say the Special Response Team served a high-risk search warrant about 1 a.m. Wednesday, entering a house in the 1700 block of Melrose Street and arresting 23-year-old Shawn Norton on a charge of aggravated assault. Witnesses told police they were walking home from the nearby Qwik-Stop mini mart on Northwest Boulevard when they saw Norton drive past. They waved at him, the pair told police, then Norton pulled over, accused the two men of stealing from a friend and, police were told, pulled a gun from a waistband and pointed it at the witnesses saying, “You better run.”

Police arrived at the house on Melrose soon after the alleged threat was reported and three other people came outside, all denying any knowledge of Norton’s whereabouts, police said. But police said they saw Norton trying to climb out a window. He climbed back inside when police shined flashlights at him.

The three people who left the house – Tiffany Osborne, 21, David Dadey, 20, and Rance Chandler, 25 – were later arrested and charged with obstructing officers.
