Politicians plan community events
Spokane Valley’s current and aspiring politicians will invade homes, farms and museums next week looking for support.
Candidates for District 4 state Legislature seats plan to hold three separate fund-raising events.
On Wednesday, Sen. Bob McCaslin, Rep. Larry Crouse and Rep. Lynn Schindler will hold a meet-and-greet event at the Spokane Valley Heritage Center, formerly the Opportunity Township Hall, at 12114 E. Sprague Ave.
The Republican incumbents will give a short presentation and then will be available to answer questions, said Charlotte Benjamin, their campaign coordinator. The event runs from 5 to 8 p.m.
House hopeful Jim Peck, who’s running against Crouse, will serve up roasted chicken at photographer Don Hamilton’s farm June 26. Both Peck and fellow Democratic candidate Tim Hattenburg, who’s vying for McCaslin’s Senate seat, will be on hand to answer questions.
Peck’s campaign coordinator and wife, Joy Peck, is asking for a donation of at least $25 for the dinner, but noncontributors are welcome, she said. The farm is at 7208 E. Bigelow Gulch, and the event starts at 5 p.m.
On June 27, Hattenburg will host his own event at longtime community activists Sally and Ron Jackson’s house, 11722 E. Sixth Ave. The potluck picnic begins at 2 p.m.
Hattenburg, a retired teacher, said he’s been knocking on 100 doors a day and often bumps into former students. He also meets up with voters who don’t share his political views, but Hattenburg said most wish him good luck anyway.
