7: Get with it

The Spokesman-Review

The debut issue of 7 is finally here!

We’ve spun the Weekend section into a weekly section that reflects the energy of our growing entertainment scene.

We want the Web site, www.spokane7.com, and section to be the go-to place for fun in the Inland Northwest.

7 can be found on Fridays in The Spokesman-Review, and about 3,000 copies will be available free at select locations.

The publication has a new look and feel, beginning with its name. After considering dozens of suggestions, we decided on 7. It effectively repositions Weekend as an entertainment and news guide covering the week and beyond.

Besides event listings, the content is divided into seven sections: music, movies, home entertainment (movie rentals, videogames, TV), food and drink, lifestyle, the arts, and seen and heard (highlighting local entertainment life).

We’re focusing on local features, including articles on young artists, the gay community, a weekly spotlight on local bands and a political column taking an irreverent look at area issues.

Other new stories include Isamu Jordan’s column about night life, a feature updating upcoming events and show changes, Dan Webster’s take on the movie scene, videogame reviews, a reality TV column and the cartoon Too Much Coffee Man.

Since printing space is limited, many other features will only be offered online. Event listings online will be searchable and allow users to sort by date, category, free events, those less than $7 and hot picks. Other online features include a restaurant database, which includes 400 area restaurants, and music, movie and politics blogs. Phone camera shots, cell phone reviews, mp3s, movie trailers and more will follow soon at www.spokane7.com.
