Kate Sinnott and Stefani Hertz threw back-to-back three-hitters and Hannah Shelley hit her 18th homer Thursday as Community Colleges of Spokane closed out its regular softball season with a 5-0, 8-1 sweep of Big Bend CC (12-26, 9-19) at SFCC.

Vanessa Shelton went 2 for 3 with two runs and Shelley hit a two-run triple in the opener. Rachael Turner and Erin Myers were both 2 for 3 with two RBIs in the nightcap.

The East Division-champion Sasquatch (29-11, 25-3) have an opening-round bye to the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges Championships, which begin May 21 at Delta Park in Portland.

Track and field

Eastern Washington’s Hana Merk placed seventh in the heptathlon during the Big Sky Conference Championships at Ogden, Utah.

Merk compiled 4,166 points. She had the day’s second-best mark (17 feet, 6 inches) in the long jump.

EWU’s Traci Mickle placed 11th with 3,700 points. Winner Carla Breuer of Montana scored 4,993.
