Pullman woman may face charges for false rape reports, police say

From staff reports

A Pullman woman may face charges after making false reports about an attempted home-invasion rape and burglary at her home.

The Pullman Police Department reported Thursday that detectives interviewed the woman May 9 and began investigating claims of two separate incidents since May 6. They compiled a suspect composite for the reported rapist, but the sketch was never released because of inconsistencies in the woman’s claim, police said.

The statement said police did not want to alarm the public in the chance the reports were false. Pullman police are investigating a possible serial rapist, who they believe has been operating in Pullman since August.

Tuesday, the woman came to the police department and said she had filed two false reports about the incidents, according to a police statement.

Detectives will forward the case to the Whitman County Prosecutors Office for review.
