Fisk leads Gorillas to district title
Kayleigh Fisk (10-1) struck out seven, collected three hits and scored twice Saturday as Davenport (21-3) defeated Odessa 11-5 in the championship game of the District 7 B softball tournament at Kettle Falls.
Elesha Johnston added two hits and three runs batted in, and Stephanie Morrison totaled two hits and three runs for the Gorillas.
Both teams qualified for next week’s state tournament at Walla Walla Point Park in Wenatchee.
Davenport defeated Selkirk 12-4 in the semifinals. Kelsey Scharff (11-2) struck out seven, Johnston had three hits and three runs, and Fisk and Andrea Miekle drove in two runs apiece.
Also at the tourney, Jennie Harp struck out seven and Marci Iksic had a two-run double in the fifth as Odessa (18-6) defeated Curlew 15-5 in the other semifinal. … Curlew (22-4) qualified for state with a 6-5 win over Inchelium (20-6). The Cougars had four consecutive hits with two outs in the seventh to score three runs. … Selkirk (24-2) made state with a 6-2 win over Republic (14-11), highlighted by Kristen Taylor’s two-out, three-run double in the third. … Jessica Pichette (21-2) took a shutout into the seventh as Selkirk toppled Curlew 8-4 in the game for third and fourth seeds to state.
•Erin Lundy (13-3) struck out seven and Katie Lamon had four RBIs as Freeman (18-4) defeated Okanogan 11-3 to open the 1A regional tournament at Moses Lake. Freeman and Brewster were tied at 5 in the sixth when rain forced postponement of the tourney until 1 p.m. Monday. … In another tourney opener, Jessie Edson reached on an error in the seventh and scored on Kayla Darch’s single to give Liberty Bell a 4-3 win over Colfax (14-9). LB and Kettle Falls were tied at 3 in the fourth when the rains hits. They’ll pick up their game at 1 Monday. The tourney is double-elimination. Three teams will advance to next week’s state tournament at Paul Lauzier Athletic Complex in Moses Lake.
•Sadie Short had a two-run double as Touchet (20-2) won the District 9 B title with an 8-0 win over Garfield-Palouse (17-6) at Pasco’s TRAC Field. Both teams qualified for next weekend’s state tournament in Wenatchee. Touchet began the day with Amy Gerla’s 6-0 no-hitter over Colton. … DeSales (17-7) earned the third and final state berth with a 6-2 win over LaCrosse-Washtucna. L-W (18-8) reached the third-place game by knocking out Liberty Christian 11-0 in five innings, and Colton 18-0 in five. Amanda Fisher and Talia McKay combined for five RBIs against Colton (15-10).
•Rain forced another postponement of the 4A East regional. The games were rescheduled for Franklin Park on Monday, starting at 1 p.m. Four teams will advance to next week’s state tournament at the SERA Fields in Tacoma.
•The District 7 2A tournament at Medical Lake was again postponed by rain. Games were rescheduled to start at 10 a.m. Monday.
Baseball
Jorge Reyes pitched a four-hitter and struck out 11 to lead Warden to a 2-0 win over Colfax (15-5-1) in a State 1A opener at Wenatchee. Rolando Rodriguez doubled twice and drove in both runs. For the Bulldogs, state champs the last two years, Jameson Maj also pitched a four-hitter with 11 strikeouts, and Aaron Kromm went 2 for 3. … Warden (22-1-1) then dropped an 11-3 quarterfinal to Brewster. The Bears (22-2) will play in Friday afternoon’s semifinals at Yakima County Stadium. … In state play at Moses Lake, Lind-Ritzville trailed River View 8-7 in the seventh when rain postponed the game. The game will pick up at noon Monday at the same site.
•Selah (25-0) posted a 5-0 win over West Valley (12-13) in a State 3A quarterfinal at Yakima County Stadium. No details were reported. Selah advanced to Friday’s semifinal at Everett Stadium against Columbia River (20-4). WV began the day with a 6-4 win over Skyline (16-8). No details were reported.
•Naches (14-8) defeated Colville 5-3 in the State 2A quarterfinals at Selah. No details were reported. Naches advanced to Friday’s semifinals at Yakima County Stadium. Colville (18-8) started the day with a 5-2 win over Ephrata (20-3-1). No details were reported.
•Lake Quinault (14-5) edged St. Michael’s 6-5 in a State B quarterfinal at Parker Field in Yakima. No details were reported. LQ will return to the same site for Friday’s semifinals. St. Michael’s (18-3) began the day with a 17-10 win over Kittitas (19-4).
