Middleton wins 3A softball

Donnae Carrell scattered seven hits, singled and doubled Saturday to lead Middleton to an 8-2 win over Buhl in the title game of the State 3A softball tournament at Timberlake High in Spirit Lake.

Johynna Bice and Kim Kent tripled for the Vikings (22-3), who allowed just three runs in their last eight games.

Middleton finished the season with 13 consecutive wins.

The game had been relocated from Ramsey Field in Coeur d’Alene because of heavy rain. The rest of the tournament was canceled because of rain.

Lakeland and Timberlake were to have met in a consolation-bracket game.

•Moscow (9-24) settled for third place at the State 4A tournament after a 6-3 loss to Caldwell at Blackfoot High. Madison edged Caldwell 2-1 in the championship game.

Tennis

Sandpoint’s Tim Neidhart defeated Bishop Kelly’s Andrew Williamson 6-2, 6-7, 6-3 to win the State 4A boys singles championship at Vallivue High in Caldwell. Neidhart dropped just one set on the way to the title match. His effort allowed Sandpoint (59 points) to place second in the team race, 16 points behind Bishop Kelly. Also at Vallivue, the host school’s Katie Combs defeated Moscow’s Maddie Snevily 6-0, 6-0 in the girls championship… . Coeur d’Alene placed 11th at the State 5A tournament at the Boise Racquet and Swim Club. Travis Anderson in boys singles and Marki Grimsley in girls singles both reached the third round of consolations… . Clark Fork’s Rayna Allen lost to Homedale’s Caity Jones 6-0, 6-1 for the girls singles championship at the State 3A tournament at Timberline High in Boise. The Wampus Cats tied for sixth place.

Baseball

Sandpoint (14-13) defeated Mountain Home 15-11 in the third-place game of the State 4A tournament at Rodeo Park in Caldwell. No details were reported.
