The way we watch TV is going to change dramatically over the next decade, some prognosticators believe. Instead of watching shows in scheduled time slots, viewers will be able to download a personalized lineup that they can watch whenever they want.

A broadband Internet connection and home computer server and network will be critical to that scenario.

The tradeoff? A potential loss of cultural camaraderie found in groups of people talking about what they all watched on television the night before.
