Anniversary event planned at school, child care center

Liberty Lake Christian School and Child Care is planning a party Friday to celebrate the center’s 25th anniversary. The festivities planned for children attending the center include a jumping castle, petting zoo, carnival games and cotton candy.

“We sat down and brainstormed a lot of fun games,” said school Director Linda Lentz.

The event is scheduled for 9:15 to 11:15 a.m. in the Liberty Lake Community Church parking lot at Eighth and Garry Road. “We’re hoping for sunshine,” Lentz said.

The school began when church member Nancy Ashworth went to the church’s pastor and asked to start a preschool. A year later it began expanding and now offers care of one type or another for children up to age 12. Younger kids are in the nursery or in preschool, prekindergarten and kindergarten classes. Older children attend the before- and after-school program. “We have a lot of coming and going during the day,” she said.

If attendance is any indication, the school has been a roaring success in its first quarter century. Some staff members have been there nearly 20 years. Lentz, who took her post as director five years ago, jokes that she’s the new kid on the block. The center has waiting lists for almost every age group.

“The community is growing so quickly,” Lentz said. “We’ve got a really good word of mouth reputation. Right now our biggest waiting list is school-age kids. This spring we couldn’t even register any new families. We had to put them all on the waiting list.”

Lentz has also invited adults to attend the anniversary celebration, including former board members and former pastors.
