Search suspended for lost boater

Associated Press

CAMAS, Wash. – A Coast Guard search was suspended Saturday for a woman missing in the Columbia River after an 18-foot boat capsized near this town east of Vancouver.

Petty Officer Kurt Fredrickson said the Coast Guard got a report about 3 p.m. that the woman was missing near Lady Island.

He said the search was called off later in the afternoon because the woman would not have survived long in the chilly water.

She was not wearing a life jacket.
