Man sought after shooting

Spokane police are looking for a 19-year-old Spokane man who allegedly lost his temper during a card game, pulled a pistol and fired a shot through the floor Saturday night, narrowly missing a child seated on a couch.

Police say Michael D. Charles was playing cards at a house on the 3700 block of North Cook in Spokane when another man in the game corrected Charles’ pronunciation. Charles reportedly then pulled a handgun from his waistband and fired a shot through the floor.

On the main level one floor below, the bullet struck the carpet about two feet from where a child was seated on a couch, according to police reports.

Charles and a companion then went through a back door and ran from the house with another man, police said. Police say they expect to charge him with reckless endangerment.

4 jailed after alleged attack

Four people were arrested near downtown Spokane on Saturday night after they allegedly attacked three pedestrians and demanded money.

Two men and one woman were walking near Second and Hamilton about 9:30 when a white sedan stopped next to them. According to police reports, the four passengers jumped from the car, carrying two baseball bats and two folding knives.

One of the attackers approached the female victim and demanded her money, police said.

The woman victim ran off from the group and called police on a cell phone, police said.

Police officers responded and searched the sedan. They reported finding six knives and two bats.

None of those accosted reported any injuries, police said.

Those arrested were identified as Anthony E. Pritchett, 34, and Roxanne Brandvold, 21, both of 5020 Spotted Road; Brandon Michael Rishel, 19, of 13222 E. Fourth; and a 17-year-old girl from Missoula.

All four were booked on charges of armed robbery, police said.

Man found dead at park

Mount Rainier National Park, Wash. A 41-year-old man was found dead Saturday, weeks after a car accident on the east side of Mount Rainier National Park.

Park rangers found the man lying in snow about 30 feet from his Honda, which was discovered down an embankment at an overlook along State Route 410 between Chinook Pass and Cayuse Pass, a park spokesman said.

Park officials said a visitor saw the car down the embankment on Oct. 10 but didn’t report it until Friday. Park rangers searched the area Friday but didn’t find the body until Saturday.

There was about a foot of snow on the ground at the accident scene. The case has been turned over to the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office. Police have not released the man’s identity.
