Mustang drivers cited for racing
Two men got in trouble for drag racing their Ford Mustangs down Mullan Road on Saturday.
Officer Craig Chamberlin saw two black Ford Mustangs stopped at a traffic light Saturday about 6:30 p.m. When the light changed, both drivers allegedly spun their tires and raced up the public roadway, according to a press release from the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.
Officer Chamberlin had to accelerate to 55 mph to catch up with the Mustangs, Police said. When Chamberlin activated his emergency lights, both drivers pulled to the side of the road, Police said.
Dion C. Rust, 41, 11212 E. 30th Ave., was cited for allegedly racing, a misdemeanor offense.
The second driver, Michael K. Enholm, 38, 2226 W. Gardner Ave., was also cited for misdemeanor racing. During a search of Enholm’s car, Police allegedly found a loaded pistol inside. Enholm did not have a permit to carry a concealed weapon and was cited on that charge as well.
Traffic stop leads to passenger’s arrest
A car with expired license plate tabs led to an arrest for cocaine Saturday.
Spokane Valley Police Officer Dean Meyer stopped a Ford Crown Victoria on East Sprague Avenue just after noon. He noticed the car had expired license plate tabs, according to a police press release.
The driver, Sebastian Barrera-Rivera, 28, of Wenatchee, was cited for various infractions including an expired vehicle license and not having proof of insurance.
During a search, Meyer allegedly found cocaine inside the wallet of a passenger, identified by police as Luciano Barrera-Rivera, 20, of Quincy, Wash. Luciano Barrera-Rivera was arrested on suspicion of felony drug possession and was booked into the Spokane County Jail.
Theft suspect nabbed by customers
Club patrons chased and caught an alleged purse snatcher Sunday.
A Spokane Valley man grabbed a woman’s purse off a table at Hotteez night club, 20 N. Raymond Road, about 11:20 p.m. Sunday. The man was chased and caught at the nearby Rosauers grocery store, according to a press release from the Spokane Valley Police Department.
The would-be thief left behind an important piece of evidence: a jacket with the name Hawkinson embroidered on it, Police said.
Robert M. Hawkinson, 10807 E. Fourth Ave., was arrested on suspicion of felony second-degree theft, Police said.
Burglary suspect arrested at Spokane Asphalt
A 34-year-old man was arrested for allegedly prowling through storage trailers Sunday.
Police officers found a man inside a gated property at 17801 E. Sprague Ave. owned by Spokane Asphalt about 1:30 p.m. Sunday, according to a Spokane Valley Police Department press release. The property has several locked semi-truck trailers on the site used for storage, according to police.
Police found the door of one trailer had been forced open. Nothing appeared to have been stolen, police said.
After an investigation, Beauregard G. Phelan, 110 S. Long Road, was arrested on suspicion of second-degree burglary.
Woman arrested for driving car
An 18-year-old Spokane Valley woman was arrested Monday for driving a car that had been reported stolen, police said.
The 1991 Toyota Camry had been stolen from the parking lot of Kmart last week.
Officer Michael Wall pulled over the stolen Camry early Monday near Havana Road and Pacific Avenue. The car appeared to have been started with a pair of scissors and the ignition was damaged, according to a press release from the Spokane Valley Police Department.
The driver, identified by police as Susan D. Grenfell, 11910 E. Broadway Ave., said she didn’t have a license, registration or proof of insurance, police said. Grenfell was arrested on suspicion of felony possession of stolen property.
Police are trying to determine if a passenger in the car was involved in the car theft, according to the press release.
