Lucas helps Cowboys roll to win
John Lucas III scored 22 points, Joey Graham added 16 and No. 6 Oklahoma State pulled away in the second half to beat Arkansas-Little Rock 90-65 Tuesday night at Stillwater, Okla.
Lucas made three straight 3-pointers to spur an 11-2 Oklahoma State run early in the second half that put away a pesky Trojans team.
Arkansas-Little Rock (1-1) led 33-32 when Brandon Freeman scored the opening basket of the second half, but Oklahoma State (2-0) started to pull away after Daniel Bobik hit a pull-up jumper to break a 35-all tie.
Lucas nailed consecutive 3s from the same spot along the right sideline, then popped in an arcing shot from the opposite side and the Cowboys were up 46-37 and rolling.
(2) Kansas 91, St. Joseph’s 51: At Lawrence, Kan., Wayne Simien had 20 points and 13 rebounds, and the Jayhawks shot 63 percent during a rout of the Hawks.
Kansas (2-0), which dropped from No. 1 to No. 2 this week following a close season-opening victory over unranked Vermont, shot 61 percent in the first half and seized a 50-19 lead while holding St. Joseph’s (0-1) to 19 percent on 5-for-26 shooting.
(8) Kentucky 73, Ball St. 53: At Cincinnati, Patrick Sparks scored 20 points and Shagari Alleyne added three second-half dunks to lead the Wildcats over the Cardinals (0-1).
The 7-foot-3 Alleyne, who finished with 10 points, lifted the Wildcats (2-0) with his second-half play after Kentucky played sluggishly for most of the first 25 minutes in their annual game at U.S. Bank Arena.
(10) Michigan St. 104, Wis.-Green Bay 46: At East Lansing, Mich., Alan Anderson led a balanced offense with 18 points, and the Spartans beat the Phoenix (1-1).
Paul Davis had 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Spartans (2-0), who reached 100 points in consecutive games for the first time in more than 40 years. Shannon Brown and Kelvin Torbert each scored 15, and Maurice Ager added 13.
(11) North Carolina 94, Tennessee 81: At Lahaina, Hawaii, Rashad McCants scored 27 points and the Tar Heels (2-1) rode a sharp first half to victory over the Volunteers in the semifinals of the Maui Invitational.
(12) Louisville 93, Chaminade 63: At Lahaina, Hawaii, Taquan Dean scored 21 points and the Cardinals bounced back from an opening-round loss to beat the Silverswords (2-1) in the consolation bracket of the Maui Invitational. The Cardinals (2-1) will play Stanford for fifth place on Friday.
(13) Maryland 93, Mercer 67: At College Park, Md., Nik Caner-Medley scored 21 points, and the Terrapins (2-0) placed four other players in double figures in a rout of the Bears (1-1).
Chris McCray had 15 points and a career-best nine rebounds for the Terrapins (2-0), who closed the first half with a 10-0 run to go up 49-31. Maryland stretched the lead to 30 before coach Gary Williams emptied his bench.
(14) Mississippi St. 82, UMKC 64: At Starkville, Miss., Winsome Frazier scored a career-high 30 points to lead Bulldogs (5-1) past pesky Missouri-Kansas City (0-1).
Marcus Campbell added a career-best 18 points for the Bulldogs, who shook off a sluggish start and won their third straight. Mississippi State shot nearly 52 percent (32 of 62) from the field. Frazier left to a standing ovation in the final minutes after hitting his eighth 3-pointer.
Iowa 82, (15) Texas 80: At Lahaina Hawaii, Pierre Pierce hit a 25-foot jumper with 44 seconds left to give Iowa the lead for good, and the Hawkeyes beat the Longhorns (2-1) in the semifinals of the Maui Invitational.
Jeff Horner led Iowa with 27 points. Pierce, who had 18 points and seven assists, hurt his ankle on the final play of the game and left the Lahaina Civic Center on crutches. He was taken for X-rays.
(20) Wisconsin 72, UC Santa Barbara 61: At Madison, Wis., Clayton Hanson scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half, and the Badgers (2-0) beat the Gauchos (1-1) for their 30th consecutive victory at home. Alando Tucker added 16 points and Zach Morley 14 for the Badgers, who got four 3-pointers each from Hanson and Morley.
(21) Notre Dame 73, Ind.-Pur.-Ft. Wayne 45: At South Bend, Ind., Chris Quinn scored 15 points and Dennis Latimore had career highs of 12 points and 11 rebounds to spark the Fighting Irish to a victory over Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne (2-2).
The Irish (2-0) took a 12-0 lead and never let the Mastodons get close. IPFW used a 16-11 run to close to 30-18 at halftime, but the Irish pulled away after the break.
(23) Florida 90, Florida Atlantic 45: At Gainesville, Fla., freshman point guard Taurean Green sparked the Gators (2-0) to an easy victory over Florida Atlantic (0-2), the team coached by his father, former NBA forward Sidney Green.
(25) Memphis 79, Arkansas State 75: At Memphis, Tenn., Sean Banks scored 28 of his career-high 31 points in the second half, leading the Tigers (4-1) to a lethargic victory over the Indians (1-1).

Stanford 62, BYU 53: At Lahaina, Hawaii, Dan Grunfeld scored 20 points and the Cardinal beat the Cougars in the consolation bracket of the Maui Invitational.
California 82, Southern 63: At Berkeley, Richard Midgley scored a career-high 26 points as the Golden Bears (2-1) beat Southern in the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
