A letter published Thursday “B.C. town to dishonor service” incorrectly implies in the headline and text that the city of Nelson, British Columbia, is supporting a memorial to Vietnam War draft resisters. The proposal comes from a private organization, and the city’s mayor attended the press conference where it was announced, but the city never formally backed the idea. Nelson’s city council passed a resolution saying the city would not be involved and it purchased newspaper ads that criticized the project. Backers of the memorial now say they will try to locate it elsewhere.
