Fischer reels in Rams’ ninth win

Riverside improved to 9-0 in Great Northern League girls soccer Tuesday with a 5-1 win over visiting Colville.

Kim Fischer scored the first two goals for the Rams (9-4 overall). The game-winning goal, late in the first half, was her ninth in league play.

Colville (1-11, 1-8) scored in the eighth minute for a 1-0 lead.

Elsewhere, Pullman (9-4, 8-1) edged visiting Deer Park 4-3 to remain right behind Riverside. Katie Spangenberg had a goal and an assist in the first half for the Greyhounds. Laura Gibson had a hat trick for the Stags (5-8, 3-6). … Lakeside (4-9, 4-5) notched a 4-0 shutout at Chewelah (5-7, 3-6). Stacy Olson scored from 35 yards out to open the Eagles’ scoring.

Volleyball

Chewelah (6-2 GNL) outlasted visiting Lakeside 23-25, 25-15, 19-25, 25-21, 16-14 to record its first win over the Eagles (7-3) in a dozen years. Jordan Monasmith had 16 kills to lead Chewelah while Sophie Tilla collected 40 assists. … Pullman (6-2) notched a 3-0 sweep at Riverside (3-7). Miranda Weitz had 12 kills and two blocks, and Amy Small passed off 23 assists and served up six aces for Pullman. … Richelle Daily served 10 aces and Nicole Johnson had 15 kills to lead Medical Lake (2-7) to a 3-1 win at Deer Park (0-9).

Cross country

Colville’s boys knocked off previously unbeaten Riverside and Medical Lake at Riverside’s course. Colville edged Riverside 24-31 and the Cardinals 23-36. Riverside beat Medical Lake 24-35. Colville’s Justin Rose ran 17 minutes, 22 seconds to hold off ML’s David Jacob by six seconds. … Pullman earned a 27-29 win over visiting Lakeside. Pavel Szafruca of Pullman ran 17:59 to win by 41 seconds. … Chewelah’s took the top six places and swept host Deer Park. Scott Kinyon covered the 3.1 miles in 19:06.

Lakeside’s girls remained undefeated by edging host Pullman 26-29. Katie Campbell of Lakeside covered the course in 21:48, 20 seconds ahead of Pullman’s Beth Mathison. … Riverside earned a split on its home course, edging Colville 24-31 but falling to Medical Lake 26-29. Colville edged Medical Lake 27-28. Riverside’s Stephanie Dye finished a second ahead of Colville’s Brittany Williams, covering the 3.1-mile course in 20:35. … Chewelah scored a 26-29 win over host Deer Park. DP’s Carolyn Gray won individual honors, finishing in 21:46.

Girls slowpitch softball

Lewis and Clark defeated visiting Rogers 6-3 in a District 81 first-place tiebreaker at Hart Field. Rogers led 3-0 on Alana Scott’s RBI single in the top of the second inning, but the Tigers roared back in the bottom of the inning with four runs. Ashley Ormsby singled in the go-ahead run. Rogers hosts Ferris in a loser-out game today, with the winner playing the Tigers at Hart on Thursday for the title.
