Leslie Cushman, a second-grade teacher at Chattaroy Elementary School, has been named Eastern Washington University’s Teacher of the Month for October.

Dylan Yarbrough, the student that nominated her wrote, “Mrs. Cushman is number one to me because whenever I am sad or upset, she takes the time to help me figure it out and makes me feel better. She always makes it so fun and easy for us to learn. I love to go to school because Mrs. Cushman is my teacher.”

As EWU Teacher of the Month, Cushman’s selection was announced on KHQ-TV. She was honored at a ceremony at the school Oct. 11 and was presented with an EWU sweatshirt and other gifts, including a plaque from KHQ. Eastern will also allow her to take four credits at the university with all tuition and fees paid.

Students of all ages may nominate their teacher by writing to Teacher of the Month, Eastern Washington University, 312 Williamson Hall, Cheney, WA 99004-2458. Each month a teacher is selected by a group of faculty members from Eastern’s Education Department.
