The Spokesman-Review

The author of a letter published Wednesday under the headline “National debt should be feared,” originally wrote that “$3 trillion have been stolen from the Social Security trust fund to make the yearly fiscal picture look better.”

Because of an editing mistake, the printed letter implied erroneously that that much money had been diverted to the federal budget every year since 1980.
