How the winners were picked

The Spokesman-Review

This year’s winners were selected from nearly 100 outstanding entries.

First those nominations were narrowed down to the top five in each area by three Spokesman-Review staffers: Voice editor Richard Miller; day desk chief Cathy Evans, who oversees the production of the Voices; and reporter and Slice columnist Paul Turner.

Then those top five picks were sent to the winners of last year’s contest in that area. Those winners made the final decision.
