Moscow scores win over Sandpoint

When you’re playing the two-time defending state champions, you tend to find plenty of inspiration.

The Moscow Bears found some to close out Sandpoint in an Inland Empire League volleyball game on the Bulldogs’ home court Thursday night.

Sharlee Cummings served the final six points of the match as Moscow earned a 25-20, 22-25, 25-16, 25-21 win.

•Lake City earned the victory in the Inland Empire League opener for both schools. Renee Bordelon collected a game-high 17 kills while Lauren Stern handed out 35 assists. … Lakeland picked up a pair of wins in a four-team tournament at Rathdrum. The Hawks knocked off Bonners Ferry 25-14, 25-10, 25-10, and Timberlake 25-16, 25-21, 25-16. Timberlake held Bonners Ferry winless by taking a 21-25, 25-8, 26-24, 25-10 decision. Anali Carrico had four kills and Jackie Smith served seven consecutive winners as Mullan stopped Coeur d’Alene Charter 25-14, 25-9, 25-8.

Boys soccer

Corbin Loutsis’ header off a corner kick lifted Post Falls a 2-1 Inland Empire League victory over Lakeland. Casey Asher’s chip shot skipped off the goalkeeper’s fingertips for the Spartans’ opening goal.

Girls soccer

Abby Jensen had two goals and Kylie French a goal and an assist as Sandpoint defeated host Moscow 6-1 in an IEL match.
