Cardinals 3, Dodgers 0: At St. Louis, Matt Morris pitched a two-hitter and struck out a season-high 11, leading St. Louis to a win over Los Angeles and to its seventh straight victory. Morris (15-8) walked none and allowed only two singles to win his third straight start. Morris also retired his last 14 batters in his second shutout this season.

Braves 7, Expos 1: At Montreal, Paul Byrd pitched eight strong innings and Eli Marrero homered to help Atlanta defeat Montreal and extend its winning streak to four games.

Phillies 8, Mets 1: At Philadelphia, Gavin Floyd made the most of his major league debut, holding the Mets to four hits over seven innings and sending New York to its seventh straight loss.

Astros 8, Pirates 6: At Houston, Roger Clemens got his 325th win to pass Nolan Ryan and Don Sutton and move into sole possession of 12th place on the career list, and surging Houston won its season-high seventh consecutive game with its win over Pittsburgh.

Brewers 11, Reds 4: At Milwaukee, Geoff Jenkins and Wes Helms drove in three runs each, Scott Podsednik tied a career high with four hits and Milwaukee defeated Cincinnati. Wes Obermueller (5-7) allowed four runs, six hits and four walks in six innings. He also went 2 for 2 at the plate with a walk.

Padres 7, Rockies 6: At San Diego, Phil Nevin hit a three-run homer with two outs in the seventh inning, and the Padres rallied from a five-run deficit to move within two games of idle Chicago in the wild-card race by beating Colorado.

Giants 18, Diamondbacks 7: At San Francisco, Barry Bonds hit his 697th homer and drove in three runs, and Edgardo Alfonzo had five hits in San Francisco’s victory over Arizona. Led by Alfonzo and J.T. Snow, who had four hits, the Giants pounded out 18 hits on the way to their biggest run total of the year.
