Police arrest two during single complaint call

A man was arrested on charges relating to guns and drugs Monday.

Spokane Valley Police Department officers arrested a 25-year-old Cheney man while investigating a woman’s complaint that someone was in her apartment in violation of a protection order, according to a press release.

Police went to an apartment complex at 11308 E. Mission Ave. and determined there was no protection order, but did arrest Caleb G. Nichols, 33, 417 E. Lacrosse Ave., on an outstanding warrant of possessing a controlled substance, police said.

While Nichols was being arrested, a bystander told police there was a gun in a parked pickup belonging to Cameron E. Kimmerly, who also was at the residence, Police said.

Kimmerly, reportedly gave police permission to search the truck. Inside they found a rifle. Kimmerly is a convicted felon and is prohibited from possessing firearms, police said. Police also found drugs in Kimmerly’s possession, according to the press release.

Kimmerly was booked into the Spokane County Jail for unlawful possession of a firearm as well as for the drug charges.
