The Spokesman-Review

EVERETT — The Spokane Chiefs are fit to be tied.

Ned Lukacevic scored late in the second period, but Luke Hewitt scored at 4 minutes, 55 seconds of the third period to give the Tri-City Americans a 1-1 tie against the Chiefs at the Everett Tournament. It was the Chiefs second tie to go along with one loss in the preseason.

Lukacevic converted a pass from Jeff Lynch at 17:28 of the second to give Spokane a 1-0 lead.

Kirk Irving started in goal for Spokane and had 14 saves in two periods of play. He was replaced by Jim Watt, who finished with 15 saves in 16 tries. Kyle Arctander and Carey Price combined for 33 saves for Tri-City.

Spokane’s next preseason game is Saturday versus Seattle, at the Kent Valley Ice Center.

The Chiefs meet Portland on Sept. 18 at Eagles Ice-A-Rena in their only home preseason game. The team’s season opener is Sept. 25 in Cranbrook, B.C., against the Kootenay Ice. Spokane’s home opener is Oct. 2, also against Kootenay.
