Monday’s A.L. games

The Spokesman-Review

Red Sox 8, Athletics 3: David Ortiz homered and drove in four runs to lead Boston to a win in Oakland, its 12th win in 13 games. Manny Ramirez and Ortiz hit consecutive home runs in the fourth inning off Barry Zito, and Bronson Arroyo (8-9) pitched 6 2/3 strong innings to win his third straight decision.

Yankees 7, Devil Rays 4: Alex Rodriguez hit a three-run double, his first hit with the bases loaded in more than a year, and Orlando Hernandez won his seventh straight decision to lead New York to a win over visiting Tampa Bay. On an unusual day in the Bronx, an afternoon doubleheader became a single night game because Hurricane Frances caused the Devil Rays to arrive three hours after the scheduled start.

White Sox 7, Rangers 4: Carl Everett homered and Chicago took advantage of the Rangers’ season-high five errors to get a win in Arlington, Texas.

Orioles 4, Twins 1: Daniel Cabrera pitched three-hit ball into the eighth inning, and Jose Leon and Melvin Mora had two RBIs apiece to lead Baltimore past visiting Minnesota.

Tigers 7, Royals 3: Craig Monroe homered and Omar Infante drove in three runs to back Wil Ledezma’s six strong innings as Detroit beat visiting Kansas City. The Tigers’ win was their 63rd, preventing them from losing at least 100 games for a third straight season.
