Volunteer firefighters needed

From staff reports

A potluck and discussion seeking to find volunteer firefighters in the Rockford Bay, Black Rock and Pilot Rock areas along the western shores of Lake Coeur d’Alene has been scheduled for Thursday evening at the Bellgrove Grange near Rockford Bay.

Dan Sneve, chief of the Worley Fire District, will discuss the role of volunteers in the fire district and offer information about signing up. Sneve will speak at 7:30 p.m. A community potluck is set for 6:30 p.m.

The issue has come into renewed focus for people living along the stretch of lake north of Rockford Bay. When the Black Rock subdivision was completed, the developer had to build a fire station, known as Worley Fire District Station 6.

The station is completed and equipped with a ladder truck, but only one firefighter lives in the area and the truck needs a crew of two to be activated, Rockford Bay resident Ann Hunter said. Hunter has organized the Thursday potluck to seek volunteers. For more information, call her at 765-2206.

To reach the Bellgrove Grange, leave U.S. Highway 95 at Rockford Bay Road, drive south to Hamaker Road and follow the signs, Hunter said.
