Memorial gathering planned at Comstock
The Comstock Neighborhood Council is sponsoring its third annual Come Together at Comstock event in memory of the victims of Sept. 11 and in support of U.S. troops. It’s also a chance to get to know your neighbors.
The event is 1 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the north baseball field, Comstock Park, 29th and Lincoln.
Bring a picnic and enjoy free root beer floats at 5 p.m. There will be continuous entertainment by a variety of local bands.
A flag ceremony will take place at 5:30 p.m., and the Pentagon has approved a flyover by the Air Force.
Representatives from the Spokane Police and Fire departments will be present. The neighborhood council will provide a booth to explain and promote the Neighborhood Block Watch program.
Candidates forum at retirement center
Rockwood Retirement Community South will host a candidate forum at 4 today in the Rockwood Manor Social Hall, 2903 E. 25th Ave. Candidates running for the state representative Positions 1 and 2 and the state Senate have been invited to speak.
Persons attending at asked to park at the end of 25th Avenue and enter the blue and white seven-floor building. Ask for the location of the Social Hall.
Judicial candidates running for contested Positions 6, 8, and 11 have been invited to speak at 6:30 p.m. at Rockwood’s Community Center, 2105 S. Forest Estates Drive. Directions from Lincoln Heights area: Turn north on Southeast Boulevard, turn east (right) on 25th Avenue, and turn left at the second gate on the left for the Community Center.
Moran Prairie Library meeting and potluck
The Friends of the Moran Prairie Library will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the library, 3022 E. 57th Ave. Officers will be elected.

A potluck will be held from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Sept. 17 at Fire Station 8, 6117 S. Palouse Highway.
This event is open to the community. There aren’t kitchen facilities, so participants are urged to keep that in mind for the dish they plan to bring.
Grand District Center planning meeting
Community members from the Comstock, Rockwood and Manito/Cannon Hill neighborhoods will work on planning for the Grand District Center from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday at the Sacajawea Middle School cafeteria, 401 E. 33rd Ave.

Neighborhood Council meetings
• The Cliff/Cannon Neighborhood Council will host Mayor Jim West at its monthly meeting at 7 tonight at Roosevelt Elementary School, 333 W. 14th Ave.
Residents from all parts of the city are welcome to hear the mayor speak on city issues.
