Rogers, Clarkston win five-game testers

Three games just weren’t enough to decide the majority of Thursday night’s Greater Spokane League volleyball matches.

Rogers and Clarkston each put in the most overtime. Rogers rallied from a 0-2 deficit to stop Cheney in five games, 14-25, 18-25, 27-25, 25-20, 15-11; Clarkston took the final two games to nip visiting East Valley.

University, Ferris and Gonzaga Prep all needed four games to earn victories.

Rogers had its toes hanging over the end of the plank in game three. Cheney was at match point, 24-19, when senior outside hitter Eleanore Ma’ae served five consecutive winners to tie the score. Junior middle hitter Brittani Scott served the final two points to get the win. Scott had 17 kills to lead the Pirates, with senior setter Courtney Robinette adding 18 assists and three aces.

Clarkston was down 2-1 after the first three games, then rallied to earn the win 23-25, 25-15, 22-25, 25-21, 15-10. Coby Estlund led the Bantams with 13 kills and Sophie Miraglio, with a game-high 20, combined with Brittany Peters to dig out 37 balls.

In other results, Mandy Daniels piled up 27 kills and Kara Crisp dished off 50 assists to lead U-Hi to a 20-25, 25-14, 25-19, 25-21 win over visiting Shadle Park. … Sheridan Brett had 17 kills and Kasey Blevins collected 23 digs as Ferris knocked off Mt. Spokane, 25-23, 23-25, 25-16, 25-21. … Junior setter Liz Hardan had 36 assists and Sarah Glass and defensive specialist Haley Topliff combined for 26 digs to lead G-Prep past North Central, 25-20, 24-26, 25-13, 25-23. NC trailed 22-15 in the fourth game and roared back, only to fall short of forcing a fifth game. … Senior setter Lacey Anderson had 17 assists as Mead swept past Central Valley 25-7, 25-13, 25-21. Jordana Schneidmiller had 21 assists for the Bears. … Ivy Bush had 11 kills and Arianne Jackson had an equal number of digs to lead Lewis and Clark past West Valley, 25-16, 25-18, 25-6.
